Founded in 1981, the Museum of History of Gubkin State University of Oil and Gas today has become an educational and cultural center. The exhibition is devoted to the 75-th anniversary of the University and it displays over 1000 exhibits occupying an area of 450 square meters. The collection covers the history of the University development starting from the time when it was part of Moscow Mining Academy to the present. Historical documents, photographs and exhibitions describing the life of notable scholars are on display. The memorial to Ivan M. Gubkin, the founder of the University, occupies a special place. The Museum offers a course of lectures on the history of Gubkin University to first-year students. It is also a popular site for various exhibitions, literary soirees, chamber music concerts, and traditional meetings of Gubkin graduates.
