The characteristic feature of our University is its industrial orientation. First of all, it gives higher education in oil-and-gas related specialities, such as Geology of Oil and Gas, Prospecting and Exploration, Borehole Drilling for Oil and Gas, Development of Oil and Gas Fields, Transportation of Oil and Gas, Refining or Marketing in Oil-and-Gas Industry. Among the side specialities are Economics of Oil-and-Gas Industry, Automation in Oil-and-Gas Industry, Manifacture of Machinery for Oil-and-Gas Industry, Ecology in Oil-and-Gas Industry and Legal Services in Oil-and-Gas Business. This orientation toward the industry determines the specific character of Gubkin University.
Our University is unique in the wide range of the related specialities that cover the whole technological process of oil-and-gas industry. One can find only three or four similar universities in the world. Gubkin University is the focus of the intellectual potential of the oil-and-gas business in Russia. It is reasonable that the University provides the highest level of training. Acknowledgement of that is the leadership of Russia in the industry. It should be mentioned that Russia has achieved this level depending only on the domestically trained professionals, its own technologies and research and in-house equipment.
Gubkin University was founded in 1930 to provide the country with the necessary human resources. At present this goal can be considered as achieved. Our University is held in respect in the world, its Diploma is acknowledged in the whole international oil-and-gas community. The name GUBKIN is strongly associated with our University.
Nowadays the University offers various educational programs. Besides, the training is provided in different levels: Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Diploma Specialist. The educational institutions in the world are in the middle of transformation now. Russia is not an exception. Along with the European Union countries, Russia singed the Bologne Declaration According to the Declaration, the system essentially based on two main cycles, undergraduate and graduate, should be adopted. Access to the second cycle shall require successful completion of first cycle studies, lasting a minimum of three years. The degree awarded after the first cycle is the bachelor degree. The second cycle should lead to the master and/or doctorate degree and will last at least two years. Gubkin University, as other European higher education institutes, is also involved in the process of changing the educational programs. The master degree programs are developing especially fast. The proportion of Master graduates has reached 15% already.
The foreign students are welcome in Gubkin University. Please bear in mind that training is being given mostly in Russian. The first education program in English started in 2003. There are Russian Language Courses for the foreigners in the University.
