Academic training has always been closely linked with research work; therefore the principal departments of the University actively cooperate with the industry in an effort to solve their urgent problems. Starting from the first year through the fifth year, students work under the supervision of the principal departments whose target is to incorporate research into the academic programs. The Gubkin Student Research Society has been actively working for 40 years, teaching students to take a creative approach in solving scientific and technical problems and acquire skills of applying off-the-shelf achievements of science and technology. Students make use of their R&D results when accomplishing their graduate projects, publish articles, and participate in exhibitions and conferences. The University holds a student scientific conference on a yearly basis.
