Dean - professor I. T. Mischenko
One of the principal faculties of the University, it is deservedly recognized both at home and overseas. Training of mining engineer-physicists started in 1983 in recognition of the needs of the industry for specialists able to do fundamental research and prediction of the behavior of oil and gas reservoirs under primary, secondary and tertiary recovery mechanisms as well as processes during transportation and storage. Need for training in this area became particularly acute in the recent decade due to the necessity of developing and introducing totally new technologies. The graduates of the department have made up the personnel of the Petroleum Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences where chairs have been organized.
Students interested in obtaining a degree in hydrocarbon field development may choose to specialize in gas and gas condensate or oilfield development, or study the methods of recovery improvement.
Many of those seeking a degree of a drilling engineer have already worked in drilling crews and their choice is well thought-out. After graduating they will be working in the Polar Regions and Middle Asia, East and West Siberia or on offshore drilling rigs in southern, northern or Far East seas.
The faculty comprises 4 departments:
Physics
Oilfield development
Condensate and natural gas field development
Oil & Gas Wells Drilling Department
All departments of the faculty have chairs in the leading research institutions and production companies of the industry:
The faculty has established
"Porous Media" Research Center
"Energy and Society" Center or Global Research
